Costa Rica Shore Excursions, pick of the week #1
It was around 4:30 pm when I took this picture. The species is Alpinia purpurata. Fam. Singiberaceae.
I was sitting at my parent’s house swimming pool at Port Limon Costa Rica, and used a Canon Rebel XT, with a Canon Zoom Lens EF 90 – 300 mm, shot was done with an exposure time of 1/125s, sunny white balance, aperture value: f/5.6 and ISO 100.
Despite the fact that main focal point is in the center of frame –the red flower- the adjacent leaves form a frame by which the tension travels immediately and simultaneously out of the picture by three harmonically points –the green foliage- producing in this way, movement that is constant and energetic, but at the same time relaxing.
One big challenge was the wind blowing at the moment I took the picture –in this case it was ocean breeze that moderately turned into wind- so I had to take several pictures in order to get this one.
The sunlight was hitting backwards producing in each leaf a screen effect, the intensity in the red of the flower, and light in the green foliage makes a good contrast with the dark areas in between.
